Adventure medicine or wilderness medicine is a rapidly growing field of medicine that encompasses medicine practiced in remote areas and environmental extremes.  It extends from the doctor attached to a mountain-climbing expedition to natural disasters in impoverished countries.  It provides opportunities for employment, volunteer aid and scientific research.  Doctors of all specialties, nurses and paramedics are unified by their desire to use their  meidical skills as a passport for adventure.
